If You Remember Just One Thing

Your social media feed is not representative of reality. AT ALL. Moreover, what you see on your feed is not what others see on their feeds. I’ll say it again. Social media is not reality. Trending topics vary by user. Trolls exploit anger and fear to influence and persuade. And our newsfeeds are algorithmically designed to compel emotional reactions that keep us engaged on these for-profit platforms.
This does not mean there aren’t legitimate issues that are worthy of your outrage. It does mean that addressing issues requires impulse control and ground truth. We cannot make progress if we operate on inference instead of evidence.
