A Ranty Em Podcast: Shouting into the Void
I know I joke that Ranty Em is the blog no one asked for. The reality is it’s almost purpose-built to fail, with its focus on context and nuance in the Digital Age. You don’t exactly score Internet points by writing lengthy essays that take the rage out of “outrageous headlines.” But I know I’m not the only one who wants to prioritize positive outcomes over impulsive anger. It’s difficult to overcome our instincts, and our reptilian brains haven’t evolved to inherently outsmart the algorithms. So for now, it’s going to take a more conscious effort, lots of practice, and simply more voices to help create the groundswell we need to cut through the oversimplified, loud, biased, hot take, dumpster fire noise.
I started Ranty Em for my own sanity. If I can help anyone—anyone—better navigate the online chaos, then it’s that much more worthwhile. So I’m going to keep writing. And now, I’m also going to start recording. Podcasts.
A Ranty Em Podcast: Shouting into the Void is the next chapter in this uphill battle to make sense of a world that wants us to react before we have all the facts.
Like the blog, the podcast is for people who are tired of the clickbait, the constant conflict, and the pressure to have an instant opinion on everything. It's for people who want to take a breath, ask why something is blowing up, and figure out how to respond without getting swept up or sucked in.
Episodes will dig into the big stuff—outrage cycles, misinformation, digital behavior—but also the everyday frustrations. Sometimes we’ll talk about how to find reliable information or check our impulses before we post. Other times, we’ll just rant about insignificant pet peeves like people who don’t return their shopping carts (monsters) or people who use speakerphone on public transit.
Because not every rant has to end in relentless conflict. Sometimes it’s about letting it out and laughing at how weird all of this is. Ideally, we make it about transforming that online outrage into positive outcomes.
I’m not here to tell you what to think. Ultimately, the goal here is to help you assess information with more context and clarity, in a media environment that’s constantly trying to obfuscate and overwhelm—rewarding speed over accuracy, emotion over understanding, and noise over nuance.
I’ve kicked off the podcast with a little more background and more will be coming soon. Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Let’s keep shouting into the void—but let’s do it with a little more self-awareness and maybe a sense of humor.
